PRINCE ALFRED ARCH and the GRAEME FERGUSON PARK
The discovery of gold in Tangier Nova Scotia in 1860 caused great excitement, and even royalty
came to observe the activities of the miners. His Royal Highness Prince Alfred landed at
Mason’s Cove, Tangier, in October 1861, to visit the gold mines. The Prince Alfred Arch was
erected by the Tangier Gold Mines Historical Society to commemorate that visit.
The park is situated at the bend of Mason Point Road and Jennings Settlement Road, Tangier,
just off Highway 7, and is a tranquil spot to stop for a picnic, learn some local history, and enjoy
the scenery.
