Icelandic Memorial
Visitors will find the site of the Icelandic settlement (1875–1882) in Markland, near Caribou in the Eastern Shore region. Historical plaques mark the foundations of many original homesteads, while walking trails and interpretive signage commemorate this little-known Icelandic community.

About Icelandic Memorial
A memorial cairn has been constructed with rocks gathered from the homestead foundations and topped with a rock shipped from Iceland, and a log cabin replica with interpretive signage is located on one of the settlers’ lots. Guided tours by appointment are available. Please note that there are no services on site. Bus tours are welcome.
